THE DRIP - A Presentation Of Gruesome Poetics

Good to see Relapse putting their good name to this instead of another two-hour ambient album, this 12-minute EP taking all that is good and intense about grindcore and throwing it at the face of the listener without much regard as to how they are judged. But to these ears, this Washington state band deserves nothing but accolades. With apocalyptic crust overtones, this EP (the band's third) takes all that is good about grind and crafts a new declaration of intensity, one that falls somewhere between HIS HERO IS GONE's despondent d-beat and NASUM's sprint to the finish line, stopping off along the way to pay the required homage to NAPALM DEATH. There's a lot of energy here, and that's thanks to the band pulling in those crusted-over sounds (and a great Swedish chainsaw guitar sound, to boot), in the process making something that is a bit more engaging than your usual grindcore EP. Great stuff; looking forward to seeing what they pull out of their hats for a full-length.
