Blending a harsher Gothenburg sound, with power metal-influenced At The Gates, comes Hellucinate. The Swedes' fifth release is comprised of lively, yet tuneful death metal sprinkled with a few surprises. 'Infernique' sees Martin Akesson employ the occasional Painkiller/Primal Fear high-pitched scream, while a more restrained/mid-tempo 'Suicide Park' (dedicated to Rev. Jim Jones' mass suicide in Jonestown, Guyana) even has a section with symphonic strings and tympani. 'Needles Nervosa' features legitimate guitar breaks/solos. After languishing on smaller European labels, this is the debut on Metal Blade, which should turn a few more heads. Good stuff!
