Killswitch Engage and Anthrax, two generations of metal, took to the stage on a frigid January evening at the Fillmore in Charlotte, NC. KSE kicked off the evening in style with their high energy performances of earlier material. The pioneers of early metalcore finished off the set with Dio’s “Holy Diver” with none other than Joey Belladonna on vocals.
Next is the amazing and powerful Anthrax. It really hit home how amazing it is that this band is still kicking on all cylinders after the announcement of one of their Big 4 brothers, Slayer, announced their retirement earlier in the week. This band can still teach the new guys how things are done after all these years! Scott Ian still has his trademark stomp, Joey still sports his lovable shit eating grin, Frank Bello is still the most metal bass player known on earth and Charlie plays most of the set with his eyes closed. The addition on Jonathan Donais, I feel, has definitely added a special touch with his graceful and flawless approach to the art of shredding. Be sure to catch the Killthrax tour if it comes to you.
