Bang Your Head Festival – Day 1: What Day Is It, Andy?
July 16, 2019, 5 years ago
A few hours of light rain couldn't dampen the festive mood. Twelve hours of music, from various parts of the metallic spectrum (and a few that truly won't even register!). Right before noon, the Teutonic sounds of Stormwarrior christened the day, followed by doom laden Swedes in Sorcerer. At times, the catchy, but not easily categorized Audrey Horne recalled Thin Lizzy, and received a robust ovation. Same for Brainstorm, essentially playing in their own backyard. Second time seeing it and still not sure how to digest The Miami Vice meets Steely Dan vibe of The Night Flight Orchestra (with Soilwork frontman Bjorn Strid trying out his falsetto). Keep Of Kalessin took no prisoners. A rare appearance by Dream Evil. Max & Soulfly played the big stage. Schenker, with his three vocalists in tow, played a career spanning retrospective, while Venom Inc ground out a nasty alternative. Here's just a small sample of what transpired. A full report will be posted to BraveWords.com, soon.
