ProgPower USA Day 2 - The World Comes To Atlanta Featuring DORO, ANGRA
September 7, 2018, 6 years ago
Ms. Pesch informed the Center Stage crowd that she played in the same building, 30 years ago, with Warlock, then on tour with Megadeth & Sanctuary. She dedicated "Raise Your Fist In The Air" to recently departed singer Warrel Dane. A different band than either of the two times I saw her overseas, this summer. The guitar tandem featured Bill Hudson, subbing for Chris Caffery (who was supposed to play this one-off, in place of Luca Princiotta) and former Warlock pal Tommy Newton, in lieu of Bas Maas. Wasn't sure how Doro set would go over, as a certain portion of the ProgPower attendees are content to just watch, while Doro requires a bit of fan participation. No problem, by the end of this frenetic show, they were chanting her name.
Angra bookended a few fan chosen favorites to start and end the show, surrounding the performance of their newest album, Omni, in its entirety. Fabio Lione (ex-Rhapsody) was in fine form, moving about the stage, mugging for the audience and carrying the interactive weight of the finely tuned Brazilian musicianship. They featured a couple from the Andre Matos era ("Carry On" and "Nothing To Say"), a trio from the strong Rebirth disc (title cut, "Acid Rain" and evening ending "Nova Era) and a pair from the oft overlooked Temple Of Shadows ("Spread Your Fire" + "Angels And Demons".
A complete wrap-up of the ProgPower weekend will be posted soon. Meanwhile, enjoy some images of Doro and Angra.
