January 12, 2012, 12 years ago
CYNIC will release The Portal Tapes on March 27th via Season Of Mist. The Portal Tapes are comprised of demos from the mid-1990s, recorded after their debut album, Focus, under the name PORTAL.
Cynic founders Paul Masvidal and Sean Reinert were accompanied on these recordings by guitarist Jason Gobel (GORDIAN KNOT, Cynic), bassist Chris Kringel (Cynic), and vocalist Aruna Abrams.
The full track listing for The Portal Tapes is as follows:
'Endless Endeavors'
'Karma's Plight'
'Circle'
'Costumed In Grace'
'Cosmos'
'Crawl Above'
'Mirror Child'
'Road To You'
'Belong'
'Not The Same'
"I never thought this day would come", Masvidal comments. "A couple demos we'd record after Focus' under the name Portal' would develop a life of their own, and somehow become part of Cynic's larger discography. As an artist, it's an amazingly unpredictable journey, to see these quiet labors of love, find their way, in their own time."The Portal Tapes will be available on March 23rd in Europe (March 27th in North America) in a strictly limited one time pressing of 5,000 digipak CDs and 1,000 vinyl LPs.
