MASTODON / EAGLES OF DEATH METAL Tear Up Charlotte!
October 17, 2017, 7 years ago
Atlanta based, Mastodon, roared through Charlotte on October 4th to support their new EP Cold Dark Place and their album from earlier in the year Emperor of Sand. For this tour they brought along the kings of garage rock, Eagles of Death Metal. EODM, take the stage and pump up the fans with their upbeat and cheerful music that made all the music fans forget the tragedy that took place just three days before at a music festival in Las Vegas. A tragedy that is way too close to home for EODM. I won’t get into all of that with this review but Jesse Hughes briefly told the crowd to have a great time and “Don’t let the bad guys win”. Next was the almighty Mastodon. The band starts off with some toned-down tunes from their new EP Cold Dark Place before blasting into tracks from Emperor of Sand.
The musicianship of this band is amazing as every song sound better and tighter than they do on the album. The diverse sounds of the bands more recent albums really seem to be more appealing to a more diverse fan base as well as you see all walks of life at their shows these days. To see the 3 vocalists trade off throughout songs is something to truly behold as well and only adds to their diverse sound. It’s not something you see much of these days in metal. Please do yourself a favor and check out the show when it stops in your city.
