Heavy metal maniacs had an unusual rallying point for tonight’s festivities. They were all headed to the La Tulipe theatre to see Obituary, Immolation, Blood Incantation and Ingrown for a sold-out event.

There were not many fans in the venue when Ingrown started their set with their hardcore music. Being the first band of the night means that there are many things on stage, making it hard for band members to move around. But that being said, singer/guitar player Ross Hansen is very dynamic on stage but does not interact much with the crowd. The band pulverized the crowd with their heavy music that got the evening to a great start.

After a short set change, Blood Incantation was playing their death metal riffs and fans were loving every second of it. Their last performance in Montreal was in 2019, and by judging by the crowd’s reaction, it had been way too long for the fans. It was during the third song (The Giza Power Plant) that the first crowd surfer appeared and morphed into the first stage diver. Their sci-fi music was really aggressive and powerful and their short set was well received by fans.

Immolation was back in Montreal and was brutal as always. Their set was focused on their most recent albums with An Act Of God, The Age Of No Light, Blooded, and the set closer “Let The Darkness In”. Fans got the mosh pit going and it became intense in a record time. As usual, Ross Dolan, keeps the crowd interaction to a minimum and gets the crowd going with music. Robert Vigna on guitar is always incisive and precise with his playing, but Alex Bouks seemed to go through the motions mostly. I’m sure fans would have liked a longer set from these guys, but that will be for another time.

It was now time for the mighty Obituary to get on stage and ignite the venue with their pulverizing death metal. It had been a long time since the band played a headliner set in Montreal and fans were very anxious when they heard their traditional introduction song by Pat Travers (Snortin' Whiskey). As one would expect, the band played many songs from their most recent album Dying Of Everything. It did not take long to see crowd surfers and stage divers. There were so many divers that security was relocated to strategic placed so the divers would not stay too long on stage.  

Fans knew this was going to be heavy, loud and totally insane on the floor as fans were pushing each other like there was no tomorrow. John Tardy is once again in great shape and his vocals are always very powerful and intense. The band grouped their new songs by two and separated those pair of songs wisely through their set.  The band took a short breather before ending their set with the songs “War”, “Dying Of Everything”, “I'm In Pain”, and the crowd pleaser “Slowly We Rot”. As always Obituary did not disappoint and the musicians were very pleased by the crowd reaction.

Even if this was an unusual venue for a metal concert, fans loved every second of their night and it was contagious to see the musicians enjoying themselves as much as the fans in the pit.
