ANVIL frontman Steve "Lips" Kudlow recently spoke with Mark Morton at the Examiner.com about the band's new album, Juggernaut Of Justice, and the various stages of the band's career. An excerpt is available below.

Q: What exactly is it that has kept the band’s fires lit continuously for 30 years? Most other bands either re-evaluate, alter their course, or simply break up. But with Anvil, despite all the crap tossed your way, you keep moving along.

Lips: "I wouldn’t have continued unless I felt I was becoming successful anyway. And from both Robb’s and my perspectives, we have been successful. I mean, recording 14 albums isn’t exactly a failure."

Q: As a fan, it’s been difficult to keep tabs on you over the years, especially when you went through a period of releasing albums that never saw stateside distribution.

Lips: "Yeah, the Massacre releases from Germany. But they were behind us for six albums, man, which is pretty remarkable. And it was through an era [the mid-1990s] when no one had deals [laughs]. But yeah, they were all limited runs; I doubt they pressed more than 10,000 of each of them. So whoever has them and got them at the time; that’s it! But that’s the metal thing, right? We all know that 99.9% of real metal exists in the underground. And I’m just part of it! It’s as simple as that. And we’re a great representation of it, because we’ve been doing it for 30 years.

I know that it frustrates the fans that have been with us all along, but what can you do? Mad Dog, the guy who drinks beer through his nose, always goes crazy at our shows, asking us to play songs from those albums, but honestly, nobody even knows what they are. He thinks it’s a travesty, but I don’t look at it that way. The way I look at it, give the people what they want and have a nice day!"
