Benefit Concert For The Pirate's Den Club And Owner Brian Cohan Set For January
December 15, 2006, 17 years ago
As previously reported, the Pirate's Den, virtually the only original metal club in the Philly/NJ/NYC area, burned down on December 13th). Owner Brian Cohen, who lived in one of the upstairs apartments (and was taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation) was beset by a triple pre-Christmas whammy: losing his livelihood, home and the club. Compounding matters is the fact Cohen lost his leg, years before, in an accident, so the Pirate's Den was a safe place for him to work.
SEVEN WITCHES mainman Jack Frost comments about the tragedy: "Brian is and always has been a supporter of the local arts, a great friend to the community and to many, many musicians, my self included, who had the privilege of playing the Pirates Den. I want to convey my most heartfelt sympathies to Brian and I urge all of you to please do whatever you can to help him out in his time of need. I am making arrangements with Marc Gromen of Brave Words and Bloody Knuckles Magazine, to have one of my guitars auctioned off with 100% of any and all proceeds going to Brian to help him out. The details will be posted on this site soon as to where and how to bid on it. In the mean time, please do whatever you can, no effort is too small."
A benefit concert for The Pirate's Den and owner Brian Cohan will take place January 13-14 at Whiskey Dix Saloon, 421 N. 7th St., Philadelphia. The lineup of bands and exact times for the event are to be announced. Online contributions of any amount for Brian Cohan and The Pirate's Den may be made at www.sjscene.com/scene and at The Moshers, 303 Williamsburg Court, Marlton, NJ 08053.
Frost adds: "Let's all kick in what we can, remember, not only did Brian lose his business, but he lost his home as well. With the holiday season upon us, let him know we care."
