Good things always come in threes as metal author extraordinaire and BW&BK; Editor In Chief Martin Popoff is back with his third book on legendary hard-rock icons DEEP PURPLE. The Deep Purple Royal Family – Chain Of Events Through ’79 is a detailed extension of his first two complete Purple Works Getting’ Tighter: Deep Purple ’68-‘76 and A Castle Full Of Rascals: Deep Purple ’83-’09. Like the first two reads Chain Of Events is full of rich images capturing the band at what was arguably the height of their career. This includes photographs, posters, back-stage passes, tour programs, ticket stubs, instrument endorsements and many more. All captured from the golden decade of pioneering heavy metal the 1970’s. To accompany the gallery of Purple is all brand new interview footage that has never before been published, until now. But what makes this a special read is the detailed timeline that includes EVERY single project that the Purple alumni have ever been involved in. This timeline ranges from the popular acts such as RAINBOW, WHITESNAKE and GILLAN to the more obscure involvements such as Ian’s role in Jesus Christ Superstar.

To fill Purple fans in on the book and some of the band’s history Martin stopped by the free online podcast the Drop-D Revolution. On this episode of the free podcast that takes the listen to the “minds behind the metal” Martin further explains why Purple fans should explore Chain Of Events, which members of Purple have made the biggest impact outside of the band, and why bands these days don’t nearly have the amount of cool images and graphics like they used to. The full podcast can be heard here.
