#16) BACHMAN-TURNER OVERDRIVE - Not Fragile (Mercury - 1974)
BTO’s heaviness was only occasional, but that was perhaps its magic, (former GUESS WHO legend) Randy Bachman eventually coming ‘round to laying down big dumb chords (along with new arrival guitarist Blair Thornton), usually at lumbering speeds, and then calling upon co-conspirator Fred Turner to lay in with that lumberjack holler of his. The album’s title was a jab at YES and their lily-livered Fragile album, BTO underscoring the contrast with the cover art – a big wooden box of gears. This, the band's third album, smashed its way to #1 in Canada and on the US Billboard Charts led by the massive success of '"You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet' – ‘Sledgehammer’ indeed! But there's not a weak track on the entire opus!
