#23) KILLER DWARFS – Stand Tall (1988)

KILLER DWARFS were a five-record act out of Oshawa, Ontario, playing a blend of melodic, commercial metal with more than enough heavier fare mixed in to put them in that JUDAS PRIEST, SCORPIONS, QUIET RIOT, RATT zone. In operation since ’81, the band recorded from ’83 through ’92, Stand Tall being their second and most beloved, due to confidence and increase in production acumen. The album - which hit the Billboard charts - helped secure an opening slot on IRON MAIDEN's Seventh Tour Of A Seventh Tour In England in 1988 and featured two hits: 'Stand Tall' (complete with hilarious home-built vinyl factory video as seen below!) and 'Keep The Spirit Alive'. And the name? it comes from the band’s AC/DC-ish shortness, which was underscored by singer Russ Dwarf’s celebrated antics, most notably driving around the stage on a tricycle.

Original drummer Darrell Dwarf Millar (who now fronts AUTOMAN.CA) remarks:

"This makes me very happy that Stand Tall made the top 30 albums of all time. That record means a lot to the band as it was a record of desperate measures. We had a falling out with Attic Records after the debut album was released and this left us with no record deal. Stand Tall was recorded independently and produced and financed by the band. Lucky for us it turned out well and led us to our major world wide deal with Epic Records. Go Dunk. Stand Tall."
