Christine Carney from MP3.com spoke to DARKTHRONE's Nocturno Culto recently about his new film and what's forthcoming for the band in 2007. Here are a few excerpts from the chat:

Christine Carney: (Let's) talk about your new film that you've put out on DVD called The Misanthrope: The Existence Of Solitude And Chaos.

Nocturno Culto: "Finally, it's out, I have to say, because it's not been very easy...because sometimes during the process, you know, I'm very insecure about things...because when you see such material so many times that I did, you're starting to wonder eventually, what the hell am I doing, you know. This is just too weird for everyone. But, I guess it's like this...when you record an album and you're mixing the album, you can listen to it, you listen to the songs and suddenly your ear goes blind, so you don't know what you're hearing, actually. And that's the same with a film, actually. But I have to admit that I had a lot of fun doing it. So that was the thing that saved my day, eventually."

Christine Carney: There are a lot of films lately coming out about black metal and the Norwegian scene, but none of those seem to be coming from the guys who are doing it--with the exception of your film.

Nocturno Culto: "Yeah, exactly. Of course a lot of people will find this really boring because there is no screaming and shouting and cutting themselves, or whatever. But it's not supposed to be a black metal film either. It's just some things that are related to metal, but other things are just related to the culture. Maybe... you know, it's hard to say. But about any message...I was doing some interviews earlier today and they keep asking me, "Why didn't you explain this, why didn't you explain that?" And I'm like, "Oh, come on, try to use your imagination." But there's not supposed to be any message, actually. I think the point is that people should have a break from everyday life and just, you know, watch it. And just maybe, it gets you thinking about something. And then you're actually over the finish line. That's the point of it."

Christine Carney: Well, what about Darkthrone? What's next for Darkthrone?

Nocturno Culto: "Well, actually, I came home yesterday. So now we are finished with the two last songs for the album, and that's what I'm doing today, I'm putting on some bass guitar and stuff. So it's going to be mixed pretty soon--before the end of the month--so I'll deliver everything to England. Then, I'm getting a really long summer vacation, which I of course will spend fishing. So I'm really looking forward to this summer, actually, because I remember last summer. I mean, even if I had a good time back then as well, I knew that when the autumn was coming, it was going to be a lot of work--both with the album and of course with the DVD as well. So now finally, all the pressure is gone. And it's almost like I'm feeling a bit nervous. I mean, what's next, you know? It's like...it's too good to be true."

Christine Carney: Do you have a title for the new Darkthrone record?

Nocturno Culto: "Yes, the album will be called Fuck Off And Live Forever, or it's going to be called Fuck Off And Die. Some people might say, OK...oh...this is going to be even more punk than the last album, but it's not true, actually. It will probably be even more metal in some kind of way. I mean, we are just picking up where we left The Cult is Alive, and we probably have dragged the metal and the rock element a bit further. It's a very diverse album; it's a lot of different songs there, and I think also the sound on the album will be very different because we record two songs each time we meet up, and it results in different sounds on the album. But I think it's better to try to concentrate on each song and give that particular song its own...like...identity. Yeah, and also, there is going to be an EP in July or something, which will contain one very exclusive song, only for the EP. And there will be a different version of a song called 'Wisdom Of The Dead'. It's a different version on the album. Yeah. And plus another song, and yeah...stuff like that. So that EP will be called New Wave of Black Heavy Metal."
