Designers Comment On New METALLICA Website
July 3, 2011, 13 years ago
Website Pipeline, a Greenville, SC based web development firm (Websitepipeline.com), recently launched the new official website for METALLICA.
Two years ago, Metallica decided to fold all three of their sites (Metallica.com, Metclub.com, Metontour.com) into one definitive source for all things Metallica located at http://www.metallica.com. The goal was to provide an enhanced experience for Metallica Club members and fans and to streamline internal business processes.
The merged website provides easy access to the band’s history, complete touring information, photo galleries, videos, timelines, wallpapers, message boards, and fun facts and details about every album, video, song, tour date, band member and event. It also includes a store loaded with Metallica merchandise, and online registration and renewals for fan club members. The fan club members also use the site to access concert ticket pre-sales, limited edition product sales, and a massive private archive of articles, magazines, photos, and videos.
“It has been a great experience working with the Metallica team and their website is a tremendous addition to our portfolio of work. Metallica is worldwide brand and we appreciate their confidence in our ability to deliver a website that meets their needs,” said Brian Seidel, CEO of Website Pipeline.
The website was opened to the public on March 28th, 2011. Within hours of posting a message on their Facebook wall and Tweeting about the new site … Metallica drove millions of visitors to the website.
Formed in Los Angeles in 1981 by drummer Lars Ulrich and guitarist and vocalist James Hetfield, Metallica have become one of the most influential and commercially successful rock bands in history, having sold 100 million albums worldwide and playing to millions of fans the world over. They have scored several multi-platinum albums, including 1993’s Kill ‘Em All (3x), 1984’s Ride the Lightning (5x), 1986’s Master of Puppets (6x), 1988’s …And Justice For All (8x), 1991’s Metallica (also known as “the Black Album”) (15x), 1996’s Load (5x), 1997’s ReLoad (3x), and 2003’s St. Anger (2x). Their latest album, Death Magnetic, was certified platinum in October 2008, just six weeks after it debuted atop the Billboard Top 200 Album chart. Metallica have also garnered numerous awards and accolades, including nine Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, and multiple MTV Video Music Awards, and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in 2009.
