EWIGKEIT Leader James Fogarty: "This Is The End Of A Chapter"

EWIGKEIT leader James Fogarty has issued the following message:

"It is almost 10 years to the day when I started to record the first Ewigkeit album. Since then, I have experimented as much as is possible within the confines of metal and all it's sub-genres (black / death / stoner / electronic / ambient).

I must now venture beyond those restrictive boundaries - so therefore I must say that this is the end of a chapter, and Ewigkeit must be "scuttled" in order to make way for a new and improved vessel which will be a collaborative effort with a nuclear drive. I'll always incoporate an element of metal into what I do, but I need to sail under a different colours now.

In order to create something of worth that will be taken seriously, I need to distance myself from my early style (and other "metal" projects that I founded) The world is too fucking big to paint yourself into a corner and life too fucking short to live in a cul-de-sac.

There are other reasons for not continuing this project too - a big one is past associations with extreme metal is one ; There are some fine bands out there, but in general, it's a tired out-of-date form of music that has totally lost touch with it's origins.

Fot instance ; look at Napalm Death's Scum; Released by Earache records, it was an album bringing a chaotic fresh slice of politically aware noise to an unsuspecting world. 19 years later (12 months ago), and Earache asked Ewigkeit to go on a tour of military bases in the Middle East! ( I thought it could have been a good opportunity to say "fuck you New World Order", but decided my life-span would have been severely impeeded...)

Now look at what extreme metal has become ; A form of music that is heavy for the sake of being "heavy".

Style over substance. It has nothing to say anymore. The labels are trading in run-of-the-mill clone bands who have absolutely nothing original to offer (musically or artistically) - and the worst of all ? Metal in general has commited the ultimate crime and become conservative in the extreme. Playing Death metal in 2007 is the equivalent of listening to big-band jazz in the mid 60s, when everything was changing.

As for the new album? Yes - that will be finished and released - but NOT to promote a music project thats back catalogue is owned by someone else.

I will be making available 3 more album releases for nothing via www.deathtomusic.com (to add to the 2 already available); if you want to know when they are available - AND you would like to be informed of when the new project will be launched - please, submit your email address to the mailing list (death.to.music@ntlworld.com).

Lastly - thanks to all who have supported me over the years with Ewigkeit. Some of you have become distant, some have become strangers, some copied ideas - others even tried to sabotage what I was doing - but I can forgive and forget. Its time to move on.

So anyway - I look forwards to launching my new collaborative project within the next 6 months, and I hope you will continue to support my work !

James Fogarty (Ewigkeit).

P.S - for the forseeable future, this website will remain as an online museum of Ewigkeit."
