BW&BK; scriibe Carl Begai recently caught up with STRATOVARIUS frontman Timo Kotipelto. Following is an excerpt from the interview.
Kotipelto: “I’ve been doing a lot of acoustic gigs with Jani Liimatainen, who used to be with SONATA ARCTICA, and that’s a lot of fun," says Kotipelto. "We get along really well. Too well I guess considering some of the partying we’ve done at these gigs (laughs). He’s a great guy, we perform here in Finland as one guitar and two vocals, doing songs from KOTIPELTO, Stratovarius and covers. That’s what I do when I’m not out with Stratovarius. I love singing so much that I don’t want to be off stage. It’s also a way for me to rehearse and keep my vocal chords in good condition.”
CB: Has any thought been given to recording an album of acoustric material?
Kotiopelto: “It’s funny you should ask. We don’t have any plans to do that, but a lot of the people who come out have been recording the stuff with their cameras and asking us if we’d record something officially. It might be interesting to record some live acoustic stuff. Singing the acoustic stuff is totally different; it requires total concentration since it’s only vocals and acoustic guitar, but it’s also very casual and loosened up performing that way. We are closer to the audience, we can talk to the fans between songs… or even during the songs. ‘How do you like it now?’ (laughs).”
