According to Catherine Jones from Liverpooldailypost.co.uk, legendary DEEP PURPLE keyboardist Jon Lord is in the line-up for this year’s Liverpool classical summer pops.

The season opens on June 16 when Lord and the RLPO present his seminal Concerto for Group and Orchestra, first performed by Deep Purple and the Royal Philharmonic at the Royal Albert Hall in 1969.

Last year the 68-year-old, who has forged a dual career in rock and classical music, joined forces with the RLPO to record a new CD of his classical works inspired by his friend, the late John Mortimer. That will also be on the pops concert programme.

Jon Lord said: “The RLPO is the most generous-hearted orchestra and has always treated me with friendship and generosity.”

Lord will release his next album, To Notice Such Things, on March 22, 2010 through Avie Records. Titled after the main work – a six movement suite for solo flute, piano and string orchestra – the album was inspired by, and is dedicated to the memory of Lord's dear friend Sir John Mortimer, the English barrister, dramatist, screenwriter, author and creator of Rumpole of The Bailey, who died in January of 2009.

A new interview with Lord is available at his official website. As well, a track-by-track overview of To Notice Such Things is available here.
