Organizers of the Fuck The Commerce festival, normally scheduled in April/Mayin Altes Lager (near Jüterbog), Germany, have issued the following update:

"It’s hard but we have to release this news, which we always wanted to avoid: there won’t be a Fuck The Commerce Open Air 2009. We organized two great Open Airs with a lot of fun, great parties, great bands, great staff and overwhelming feedback – many thanks to all who have been with us. With all the great memories of this two festivals we started to work on Fuck The Commerce 2009.

After Niedergörsdorf did not want us any longer, we found a new location and started to work things out with the officials in Bernau. We continued booking and could confirm great bands. The tickets arrived us from the printing shop just a few days ago.

But after the great laud to the last festivals we forgot about the financial loss. And even if we started to work at the new arrangements for 2009, we did not (want to) work out the calculation. Knowing about prices for the new area, offers from renting agencies for technics and also fees for bands the day had to come when we had to switch on the calculator.

We thought about different possibilities. One way would be to cut costs. But it would just go hand in hand with cutting back the quality from technics and sanitary rooms, which means terrible sound and back to Dixies. We did not want that.

Next thought was, getting more audience with a murder-billing. But it’s not so easy to do either. The bands play at lots of festivals which sprout everywhere. Normally, at least the travel-costs should be paid to the bands, which sounds easy but just have a look at petrol-prices, prices for rent-a-car and flights. So sometimes it’s not even possible to pay the travel-costs. On the other hand, some bands and/or their agencies have illusions about their fees, that are not affordable for a “Fuck The Commerce”. In this point we had to make a lot of disappointing experiences. So we realized more and more, that we cannot continue that way.

We put all our energies in Fuck The Commerce and we would like to do it anymore. Our batteries would recharge easily next Ascension Day at FTC. But Fuck The Commerce Open Air is not able to recharge our bank account. So we have to stop it here and cancel the Open Air.

We thank all fans, guests, bands and the great crew as well as business- and coop-partners who kept the faith to Fuck the Commerce and made it these two great editions X and XI."

FTC XII will no be held indoors at K17 in Berlin, Germany from May 20th - 23rd. Confirmed bands include:

DEBAUCHERY, ASS TO MOUTH, HACKNEYED, CLITEATER, HYMEN HOLOCAUST, MY FIRST BAND.
