Longtime editor/author/Rockdetector.com founder Garry Sharpe-Young is set to release Metal: The Definitive Guide in April via Jawbone Press. The book contains 495 pages and over 180 photos and will retail $27.95. A description is as follows:

"Metal is the definitive account about one of the most enduringly popular forms of music. A richly illustrated volume combining biography, critical analysis, and detailed reference sections, it profiles all the major heavy metal artists as well as a huge selection of other niche acts from around the world. Metal includes new first-hand interview material with many major metal musicians and detailed discographies, plus a foreword from a true metal icon - JUDAS PRIEST’s Rob Halford. Running to approximately 600,000 words, this wealth of information is organized into the various sub-genres that are a feature of the metal scene - doom, death, black etc - each of which is comprised of an A-Z of key artists. It is the ultimate metal encyclopedia.

Metal was assembled by a team of world-renowned metal experts. Author Garry Sharpe-Young has written more than a dozen books on heavy metal and rock, and since 2001 has managed the constantly expanding www.rockdetector.com, the colossal on-line information resource for all loud rock/metal music. Garry lives in Taranaki, New Zealand. Editor Joel McIver is the author of more than half a dozen metal books, including his best-selling account of Metallica Justice For All. Project Consultant Bernard Doe has been recognized as an authority on metal since starting the ground-breaking Metal Forces magazine in the early 1980s."
