HALESTORM Vocalist Lzzy Hale On Performing With SLASH - "What’s Going On? Slash Is Right Here! He’s Sweating On Me!"

Mike Bax at Canada's Lithium Magazine recently caught up with HALESTORM vocalist/guitarist Lzzy Hale and guitarist Joe Hottinger. An excerpt from the interview is available below:
On being one of the few bands getting material played on metal stations and on pop rock stations:
Lzzy: "We wear our influences on our sleeves most times. We love a lot of different types of music and we come from different styling like players that are classically trained and Joe is definitely the nineties grunge material. And my brother and I love our parent’s music, so it’s a lot of seventies and eighties rock and roll. It’s really neat and even not just from our roots but whatever interests us. Joe, I’m totally going to ruin your badass reputation here, but Joe brought to me... what was that Taylor Swift song from that soundtrack?"
Joe: "I don’t remember that so good, it was from the Hunger Games and they had The Civil Wars on it."
(Note: The song is 'Safe & Sound').
Lzzy: "We share a lot of our influences, so it all kind of gets mashed together and then the songs come out in a weird way (laughs)."
Joe: "Just the writing is fun, like take a song and wouldn’t it be fun to turn it on its side. We went into 'Love Bites (So Do I)' with that idea and that energy and just jammed it out. It was a great way to open the set. Doesn’t matter what the style is, it still comes out our way."
On the band's success:
Lzzy: "Most of our success just comes from touring and playing and being out there constantly."
Joe: "Playing big shows."
Lzzy: "'Cause we don’t really get on a lot of television."
Joe: "We did two shows with SLASH, one in London and one in Amsterdam, and in Amsterdam he was like: 'Why don’t you sing 'Out Ta Get Me'? I’ve heard your cover, it’s awesome.' And she (Lzzy) was like, 'Cool.' So we went out and did the song, and those shows were sold out. It was great that we got to play for all of these people that never heard of us. We won them over, and definitely you could tell. When we brought out Lzzy, the place just went crazy."
Lzzy: "It was so cool. When we started the song, out of habit I went into live rock mode and kind of spaced out for a second and then went into the middle section where we were just kind of riffing with the solo and just kind of lost my mind for a second. I was like, 'What’s going on? Slash is right here! He’s sweating on me!' It was so cool; it was the best thing ever."
