HELIX mainman Brian Vollmer has issued the following update:

"YouTube is the way to go when it comes to videos nowadays. At least with bands like Helix. MTV and MuchMusic don’t really play rock videos anymore and besides, where are you ever going to re-coup all the money that it costs to make a big budget video? Back in the day videos like 'Wild In The Streets' cost $120,000 to make. With CDs only selling a fraction of what they used to, it’s a miracle when bands even break even on their recording costs. The nice thing about YouTube is that it forces bands to use their brains instead of spending money. You have to be creative.

When Vagabond Bones first came out Brent (Doerner) put together a video for it which to date has gotten over 4,600 hits. That’s great! In January he’s going to be putting together two more with the help of the audio/visual department of Conestoga College in Kitchener. We’re going to be filming for the songs 'Make ‘em Dance' and 'Monday Morning Meltdown'. It’s a tossup between the two songs which will be the first song that we release to Canadian radio-perhaps the video will tip the scales one way or the other.

Brent found a place to film out in Woodstock, Ontario with the help of our buddy Jay Wetlaufer. Somehow Brent also got the use of the old Woodstock jail for a couple of hours to film my scenes for Monday Morning Meltdown. We’re all pretty excited about doing this and about how it’s all going to turn out.

Our first gig of 2010 is going to be in London, Ontario at Norma Jeans. Last time there (in December 2008) we sold out the place. This time around we have the original 80’s lineup onstage and the phone has been ringing off the hook from friends who want tickets. Add to that the fact that the tickets are only $10.00, and it’s going to be sold out before long. Nathan Bond will be doing sound for us that night (usually Nathan does sound for THE TREWS) and we’ve had several practices already to re-vamp the show for the new year. Over the Christmas holidays both FM 96 and The Hawk gave us airplay on the Christmas CD here in London, which always helps to keep our profile up. This is extremely important to helping to fill seats whenever we come to town and we appreciate the support from both stations. With a little luck FM96 might jump on the new single as well, especially if they start to receive requests."
