KAMELOT Guitarist Thomas Youngblood On Silverthorn Album - "We Really Didn’t Worry Too Much About The Response"
April 28, 2013, 11 years ago
KAMELOT guitarist Thomas Youngblood is featured in a new interview with Australia's Chaos Cartel. An excerpt is available below:
Q: How has the response of Silverthorn been? It has done well pretty much everywhere, how are you all feeling about it?
Thomas: "It's been killer! To be honest, we really didn’t worry to much about the response because we put everything we have got into every record. We got fantastic reviews through various sources and that made us confident. It did really well in the charts as well and that was awesome, really fantastic result for us and we all felt really good about it."
Q: What changes did you make for the songwriting on this album? It seems slightly different, and has a lot going on in the songs? Any new approach?
Thomas: "Yeah, well we had a new vocalist, Tommy (Karevik), and he fit in the band perfectly! This time we also had Oliver (Palotai) in the songwriting part and that worked out really well. To be honest, I wish we had done it earlier and had him in the writing process. Earlier we had a set approach and that was working so we didn’t want to change the chemistry in the band. Now it’s different, and he contributed lots of cool parts. He is also a super cool guy and very easy to work with. It was a lot of fun, and we wanted to have fun in the entire process, and that’s exactly how it worked out."
Q: You had quite a few guest musicians in Silverthorn. How was all this planned?
Thomas: "Oh, we basically went out on the streets in Germany and yelled at people saying 'Can you please come in and record a few songs with us?' Ha! We have good friends, and they have special talents. Alissa White-Gluz from THE AGONIST. Her band had opened for us on our North American tour. We kept in touch and I really liked her, her stage presence, her voice and talents, and I wanted to have her on the record, and do the harsh vocals in ‘Sacrimony (Angel of Afterlife)’. We also had Amanda Somerville (TRILLIUM) and Elize Ryd (AMARANTHE) contributing and it was really cool. We have some cool friends and it was very nice to add some spice to the album, it worked well."
