UGO recently conducted an interview with KYLESA’s songwriter/guitarist, Laura Pleasants. Excerpts from the interview are below:

UGO: How would you describe it is being the only woman in a five-person band while on the road?

Laura Pleasants: “I'm used to being around guys all the time and the guys in the band are in many ways like brothers. Of course, at times, I do get sick of being around guys. I find that when I go home I spend most of my time with my girlfriends.”

UGO: How did Kylesa hook up with artist PUSHEAD, and how many covers has he worked on for the band?

Laura Pleasants: “We hooked up with him right from the beginning in 2001. He had worked with Brian and Phillip's previous band, DAMAD, as well with the label Prank Records. He was interested in working with us probably due to his friendship with Brian. He did our first 7", our first LP and then later a 7" EP, a limited 7" that he released, as well as a limited skateboard.”

UGO: How heavy is Spiral Shadow?

Laura Pleasants: “Cement shoes stomping through a bowl of rainbows.”
