Finnish metallers MORIAN have finished recording the lead vocals for their forthcoming album, which is being produced by Hiili Hiilesmaa (APOCALYPTICA, SENTENCED, MOONSPELL).

In a studio update, vocalist Janne Siekkinen states:

"Whew!

It took some serious screaming-around-the-clock for several days, but the lead vocals for our upcoming album are now finished. It was a really tight schedule we had!

I couln't seem to stop singing even at night – during the recordings I found myself waking up every single night several times thinking I was still in studio.

I even tried taking sleeping pills one night, but the only things I got out of them was freaky hallucinogenic dreams and a bad taste in my mouth. In the morning, as a nice bonus, I felt like somebody had beaten the crap out of me with a baseball bat. A brilliant way to start a new day! :)

But as we all know, there's nothing Morian wouldn't do for it's fans. So at 9 AM I crawled to the studio, recorded until 11 PM, crashed into bed and drifted away into restless dreams. Repeat this pattern over and over again, and the result is – ta-dah – finished lead vocal tracks!

The last day of the recordings was saved for what we call "the zoo vocals". There is lots of angry spitting and bellowing in our songs (especially the new ones), and for those part we need the infamous zoo vocals. That means basically me trying to sound as much like angry Mike Patton as I can. (Needless to say, usually I just end up sounding like an asthmatic walrus, being the choirboy that I am... :)

Anyway, here are the preparations for recording zoo vocals á la Janne:

1) Ditch the 1000-dollar studio mic and give Janne a cheap basic mic that can be held in hand (this gives him the illusion of being on stage).

2) Dim the lights.

3) Give Janne at least dozen beers and make sure he drinks them all.

4) Roll the tape and stay out of Janne's way while he's screaming and pogoing around the studio!

Sadly, we got no pictures to show you how ridiculous that looks. :)

But we got some good zoo vocals (and also gentle vocals, naturally) on tape, and for next three weeks we'll be recording what's left. That means recording some additional vocals, guest vocals, some final touch-ups for guitars and keyboards etc. The shooting of our first video for this album has already begun; the video will be shot on location of Kotka, a beautiful, old Finnish port town with great architecture.

But what's the first single going to be? Naturally we ain't telling yet, so stay tuned for more true stories of Morian!
