Theage.com.au is reporting:

AC/DC's Black Ice tour yesterday smashed box office records by becoming the fastest-selling tour in Australia.

Melbourne, home to AC/DC Lane, was the busiest city, with fans, some of who had queued overnight, snapping up 110,000 tickets in the first 45 minutes.

Nationwide, more than half a million tickets were sold - that's takings of more than $50 million, with the cheapest tickets at $100.

Promoters had been hoping there would be enough demand for the band - which played to about 36,000 fans at three Rod Laver Arenas on its last tour in 2001 - to play two shows at Etihad Stadium on February 11 and 13. They need not have worried.

Fans queued at Ticketmaster booths and jammed phone lines and the internet from 9am. Promoters put on a third Melbourne concert on February 15.

Forty-eight semi-trailers will transport the stage around the five capital cities in what will be the biggest tour of 2010.
