Plant, who was born in West Bromwich in 1948, becomes a CBE.

Paralympic swimmer Sascha Kindred, of Credenhill, Herefordshire, who picked up two golds and a bronze in Beijing, has been appointed OBE.

The chairman of Advantage West Midlands, Nick Paul, from Malvern, Worcestershire, becomes a CBE.

The chairman of the regional development agency has been recognised for services to business.
