The Sins Of Thy Beloved members Stig Johansen and Anders Thue have teamed up with Midnattsol vocalist Carmen Elise Espenaes to form a new band called Savn. Their self-titled debut album was released in Europe and the UK in April and will hit stores in North America on May 13th. Following in an excerpt from Carmen's discussion with BraveWords scribe Carl Begai about the cover art for the album:

"We found a 200 year old piano for sale, but the deal was we could have it for free if we picked it up ourselves. It was SO heavy and we had to get a lot of people in order to carry it from where we got it to our house."
"It was a process over several months to get the piano ready for the cover shoot. We put the piano outside in the yard and I found a way to grow moss all over it; you can find such things on the internet (laughs). I got a tip from a very good friend of mine who helped me with it, but you need lots of sunshine and it has to be watered all the time. So, if you can imagine, we had this piano in our yard, and there I was on these warm summer days standing there watering it while the neighbours were driving past (laughs). They were looking at me with these expressions on their faces that said it all: ‘What the hell is she doing?’ I was so embarrassed that I eventually walked to the neighbours’ houses, rang their doorbells and told them that I’m actually not crazy, I’m preparing the piano for an album cover (laughs)."

In a recent interview with BraveWords scribe Carl Begai, Carmen confirmed that her sister Liv Kristine (Leaves' Eyes) will make a guest appearance on one track for the album.

Liv offered her take on the Savn debut: "If you like the old Theatre Of Tragedy you'll like Savn. It's very down to earth gothic rock / metal. Stig was in The Sins Of Thy Beloved and there are things he really loves about that period of bands like Sirenia, Theatre Of Tragedy and Tristania. He's always been influenced by these bands and what he put together with Savn is like a dream come true for him. It's his baby."

"I love the album. It's not a complicated piece of art, it's quite simple, but the way Stig did it with Carmen, Anders and the others is excellent."
