SOULFLY / CAVALERA CONSPIRACY / ex-SEPULTURA frontman Max Cavalera is featured in a new interview with Jenna Williams, better known as The Scream Queen. An excerpt is available below:

Q: I know so many people have definitely told you that your music has changed their lives. What do you think it that is so special about your music for your fans, whether it be Sepultura, Soulfly, Cavalera Conspiracy?

Cavalera: "That, I don't know... It's something that's different for everybody."

Q: What do you think, though?

Cavalera: "I think that, maybe the amount of time that's been put on it. So much time spent on this, like all the projects I've been on; Sepultura, Soulfly, Cavalera, NAILBOMB - there are years of investment on that. And it's years of passion in music, building, to have this huge discography, songs that I can pick to play. It's great. And for some people, I play an older song like 'Refuse/Resist', 'Troops Of Doom', it takes them back in time when they first heard that song, they were like in college like, 'Man, I remember when I first heard this!' So many people tell me that.

A lot of people tell me also that they, that my music has helped them during war, you know? A lot of soldiers listen to my music, it's really cool. So, yeah, I like the idea that music that travels, that music goes to places too. It's hard to believe, but it is true, but like in the middle of Afghanistan there is some metal heads. It's great, it's so cool. The most strange place that you'd never think music would hit it, it has the power to break barriers, and go places that normally it isn't supposed to go. That's one thing I like a lot about music."

Q: Music is a journey for everyone, what have been some of those moments in that journey that have really been significant for you?

Cavalera: "I think a lot of, there's been some special shows, like the first Soulfly tour in Australia was really great. It was the first time Soulfly was accepted... I was so... (pauses) relieved because I made this band with a lot of fear of people liking - coming from SEPULTURA - what people were going to think about it, and when I hear the crowd accepting it and chanting 'Soulfly' it's like, 'Yes, I made it. It's going to be ok for now.' That was a great moment. Being accepted in the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame because they just put up the Sepultura, it has some writings on it, from when I was a kid, that's in the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame right now. That's a great moment, you know? Because to know it's there, a part of history, a part of rock history; I'm right in there together with KISS, and VAN HALEN, and all my legends, people that I looked up to when I was a kid."

As previously reported, Soulfly will play The Viper Room in West Hollywood, CA on December 29th. This will mark the official live debut with the band's new line-up. For more information and tickets go to this location.

The band's new line-up features Max Cavalera (vocals/guitars), Marc Rizzo (guitars), Tony Campos (bass) and David Kinkade (drums).

2012 will see the release of Enslaved, a brand new Soulfly album, which will be their eighth overall. While many bands barely make it to a third album, the Max Cavalera-led collective is still going strong two decades deep.

2012 also marks the band's 15th anniversary of making a tribally-influenced metallic racket and what better way to celebrate than with a new record? The album will be released via longtime label Roadrunner Records, which has been Soulfly's home for the course of its career. The label has also been Cavalera's home for the duration of his career, which began in the '80s as a member of SEPULTURA, who essentially rewrote the rules of heavy music when they arrived on the scene; Max continues to do the same today.

The song remains insane for Soulfly, as does the lineup. The powerhouse lineup features Max and guitar dynamo Marc Rizzo, with STATIC-X's Tony Campos taking up the bass. The lineup is rounded out by drummer David Kinkade, a new school, extreme skinsman whose brutality behind the kit brings a new flavor to the band.

Enslaved was recorded at Tallcat Studios in Phoenix, Arizona and was produced by Zeuss, the seasoned knob twiddler behind some of the most notable bands in metal today, such as SHADOWS FALL, HATEBREED, THE RED CHORD and more. Cavalera also shared production duties.

As is customary with Soulfly, the band will introduce some new and unexpected elements into the mix, including a guest violinist. Soulfly also collaborates with two metal veterans: Dez Fafara of DEVILDRIVER and Travis Ryan of CATTLE DECAPITATION. With Dez and Max sharing a longtime connection through the Roadrunner family, it was only a matter of time before Fafara guested on a Soulfly album. Meanwhile, Ryan said it was "an honor to receive a call from someone you had pictures of on your wall as a kid."

Cavalera also wrote a song, 'Revengeance' about his slain stepson Dana, whose death was the catalyst for the creation of Soulfly. He partners with his sons Igor and Richie on vocals, while his other son Zyon plays drums. It is the first time Max has performed with three of his sons.

The band tracked 14 songs, 11 of which will be on the record, with the other three being made available for the special edition.

Track titles are as follows:

'Resistance'

'World Scum'

'Intervention'

'Gladiator'

'Legions'

'American Steel'

'Redemption of Man By God'

'Treachery'

'Plata O Plomo'

'Revengeance'

'Chains'

'Slave'

'Bastards'

'Soulfly VIII'

Please note this is not the final track sequencing. Enslaved is due out in March 13th, 2012. It follows 2010's Omen. Further details to follow.

The 15th Annual D-Low Memorial Festival has been announced. The show will take place on December 30th, 2011, at the Marquee Theatre in Tempe, AZ. The festival will feature performances from Soulfly, INCITE, LODY KONG and more. Visit LuckyManOnline to order tickets here.
