THE WINERY DOGS Bassist Billy Sheehan - "We Didn't Have A Plan; There Was Surprisingly Little Direction"
May 25, 2014, 10 years ago
Billy Sheehan, bassist for The Winery Dogs, is featured in a new interview with QC Times. An excerpt is available below:
Billy Sheehan winces at the labeling of his new band, The Winery Dogs, as a "supergroup."
"We've all done a lot of bands in the past, various circumstances and various configurations," said Sheehan, a founding member of the band Mr. Big and a five-time winner of best rock bass player by Guitar Player magazine. "We're not a 'supergroup' at all, just me, Mike (Portnoy) and Richie (Kotzen)."The band released its self-titled first album in July, which debuted at No. 3 on the top alternative albums chart, fourth on the top independent albums chart and fifth on the top rock albums chart. It also topped the year-end chart in the Village Voice's "Pazz and Jop" critics poll.
Not bad for three guys who say they just started winging it.
"We didn't have a plan or a template or a scheme for how we thought it should be," Sheehan said. "There was surprisingly little direction about sound or direction or genre or what we were looking for. We just played."Go to this location for the complete story.
