June 16, 2009, 15 years ago
QUEENZone reports:
Selfridges has come to the rescue to provide a summer home in Birmingham for a giant 19 ft statue of the legendary FREDDIE MERCURY, it was revealed today.
It will be installed in the Food Hall on the ground floor of the store ahead of the Queen and Ben Elton musical We Will Rock You opening at Birmingham Hippodrome. The statue has been standing in front of the Dominion Theatre in London for more than seven years and has become a landmark and an important part of the production.
When news reached the Hippodrome that the statue was on its way, the theatre, which couldn’t house it on site, had just one week to find it a home.
Selfridges Marketing and PR manager Andy Price said: “We are very excited that we have been able to help the theatre.”
Rob Macpherson, marketing and development director at the theatre said: “We were very worried that we wouldn’t be able to find a home in time and Selfridges came to our rescue.”
The show opens on July 1st and runs until September 5th. For more information visit birminghamhippodrome.com.
