July 1, 2007, 17 years ago
Cleveland-based metallers WRETCH will be releasing a new CD on Auburn Records, entitled Make This Garden Burn, to support their appearance at this year's Headbanger's Open Air Festival. The 13-track disc is a specially-priced collection of previously unreleased new songs, demos, album outtakes and live tracks. The CD will be made first available for sale exclusively at the festival and will be distributed worldwide shortly after the festival. Original artwork was supplied by Alex Yarborough. Featured on the release will be the new song 'Make This Garden Burn'. The track, which was written in honor of the 10th anniversary of the Headbanger's Open Air Festival, is dedicated to festival promoters Thomas Tegelhütter and Jürgen Hegewald (Hellion Records).
"We originally were planning to release a limited-edition single or EP just for the festival featuring the anniversary song", says Auburn Records President Bill Peters. "Instead we decided to empty the vaults and give the fans over 56 minutes of music at a very low price". Also included will be a new cover version of Breaker's "Touch Like Thunder", featuring a special guest appearance by original Breaker vocalist Jim Hamar. The CD was produced by Breaker guitarist Don Depew. All 13-tracks on the collection are previously unreleased.
The complete track listing is: 'Make This Garden Burn' (2007 HOA 10th anniversary song), 'I Will Defy' (new song), 'Touch Like Thunder' (with original BREAKER vocalist Jim Hamar), 'Never Too Late' (2005 demo), 'The Challenge' (Reborn outtake), 'Comatose' (Reborn outtake), 'Reborn' (Reborn outtake-alternate instrumental version), 'Eyes Of Fate' (2003 demo), 'Reborn' (2003 demo), 'Mental Wars' (live), 'Life' (live), 'Reborn' (live) and 'Eyes Of Fate" (live).
The 26-band Headbanger's Open Air Festival is set to take place July 12-14 in Brande-Hörnerkirchen, Germany and has been billed as "the biggest garden party in the world." The venue is the yard of a burnt down and restored farm in the German countryside, where Tegelhütter opens his garden every year for the metal hordes. The theme of this year's show is "The Garden Burns!" Hegewald, together with Tegelhütter, are responsible for assembling the diversified underground talent. In addition to Auburn bands Wretch and ETERNAL LEGACY, other groups scheduled to appear include CANDLEMASS, RAGE, WOLF, MOONSORROW, SINNER, BULLET, GRIM REAPER, and HALLOWEEN, among others. The festival, co-sponsored by Rock Hard magazine, regularly sells out with thousands of metalheads attending each year. Wretch are scheduled to perform at the festival the night of Saturday, July 14.
Wretch will also be performing a warm-up show for their forthcoming European trip in Cleveland tonight (Sunday, July 1) at the Beachland Ballroom. Eternal Legacy, Level-C, MSOD and Erecto-Jector are also on the bill. Visit www.beachlandballroom.com for more information.
