BLOOD RED THRONE - Blood Red Throne

In my research of Norway's BLOOD RED THRONE, I often came across reviews of their back catalogue which included descriptors such as 'unappreciated' and 'underrated'. Too many reviewers resort to such rubric, and I'm not quite sure how it applies to a band who plays a style of music that is inherently underrated and, in the grander scheme, unappreciated. I'm certain the band could give a fuck about being unappreciated. With that in mind, let me throw around a few 'uns' of my own. Everything that made BTR's 2011 effort, Brutalitarian Regime, so uncompromising exists in their most recent self-titled, albeit in a tighter, unimpeded form. Songs such as 'Primitive Killing Machine' and 'March Of The Undying' are like a grappling hook to the rectum - unpleasant, and wholly unforgettable. I was immediately struck by the CANNIBAL CORPSE meets EARTH CRISIS-like breakdowns and riffage, unmerciful in its execution and delivery. This incorporation of hardcore-esque elements allows the band to be unfettered by the limitations of death metal, making for a unique, refreshing, and uncategoriazble listen. We could argue that there is a semblance of metalcore that threads its way through the songs, but this was certainly not an attempt to emulate the 'core we associate with your little sister and Hot Topic... no sweepo bangs to be found here. Just pure, unadulterated filth from the unholiest of the unholy.
