KING HEAVY - King Heavy

From Chile comes this bizarre mix of Candlemass and yodeling Danzig vocals, sung in English. Whereas the classic Swedes had Messiah Marcolin's operatic bellowing, King Heavy opts for minimalist/spoken voice overs. The musical comparison to the Swedes' tempo shifting doom is spot on, especially early in the “La Gargola” opener. The mini-Elvis is definitely an apt descriptor (particularly the wavering vibretto), also akin (i.e. hushed spoken intonations) to early Moonspell.
“As Dawn Broke On The Day” gets back to more Northern European influences, with a "normal" voice throughout its lumbering heaviness. The pace enlivens (for portions of) “Wounds”, when not bouncing on a bass heavy rumble. “The Crowning” is a 97 second guitar and whispered (almost a cappella) intermezzo, leading to the massive (11:17) “He Who Spoke In Tongues” finale, with it's repetitive "He has spoken" refrain.
