SIX-POINT LEAD - General Anaesthesia

This debut EP from Italian five-piece SIX POINT LEAD starts out as raging metallic hardcore of the tallest order, reminiscent of HATEBREED or even something more metal like SUPERJOINT RITUAL (hmm, is that the first time a band’s been compared to Superjoint Ritual?). But then the clean vocals come in at the chorus, backed up with the raging bulldog growling, the half-time breakdown beat, the slightly Gothen guitars… man, there’s a recipe for disaster here, but here’s how these guys avoid it: the production is great, the energy is there, and there’s still more metal than core coursing through this one. This is definitely a blast to listen to, especially if you pretend the last eight years of metalcore didn’t happen. Those clean parts never get too pandering, and on ‘Starvation & Desire’, they’re some of the best around. What I’m curious about is whether these guys will step up to the plate for their debut full-length, add in some new twists to this sound, and really make people take notice. They’ve got the skills to pay those bills, so let’s wait and see what happens.
