Final day of the annual Atlanta confab was nothing less than a Viking invasion, with the last five, of six, bands calling Sweden home. Hel ja! Dynazty were an energetic combo of power metal and the infectious nod to ‘80s glam that has prospered in their homeland. No one knew what to expect from the North American debut of Snowy Shaw, as a solo artist. Thor meets Beetlejuice had the Deep South chanting, "Hail Satan!" Playing songs he had a hand in with Dream Evil Therion, Dimmu Borgir, as well as aping the falsetto of King Diamond, for Mercyful Fate, as well as the King's solo material, was a pleasant surprise.

More headbanging than anticipated for Peter Tagtgren's Pain (with his son Sebastian, on drums), while the triple vocalists of Amaranthe (including Elize Ryd's boyfriend, aka Dynazty singer Nils Molin) kept the crowd bopping. Last act of the weekend, Katatonia, fittingly bringing things to finality. A full ProgPower USA wrap-up will be online soon.
