Alan Cochrane from Canadaeast.com is reporting:
The two-week countdown is now on for much-anticipated outdoor concert by Australian rock legends AC/DC, and city officials say there are still plenty of rooms available at local inns.
"We are hearing from local hotels that there are still quite a few rooms available and a lot of them have just become available," Kelly Cain, director of tourism for the City of Moncton said yesterday. "Whenever we have a big event like the AC/DC concert there is a perception among people that all the rooms are sold out but that isn't the case."The Aug. 6 concert by AC/DC - along with Canadian heavy metal band ANVIL and Irish hard-rock group THE ANSWER - is expected to draw upwards of 60,000 people to the Magnetic Hill Concert Site and many of them will be coming from out of town. The show will likely draw thousands of fans from all over New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, central and western Canada, parts of the United States and even from Europe. It has been suggested that this show may draw a bigger crowd than the 80,000 that showed up for the ROLLING STONES in 2005. Last year's concert by the EAGLES drew 55,000 while last month's show by BON JOVI drew about 30,000.
Cain said operators at Moncton's tourism hotline (1-800-363-4558) have been inundated with calls from prospective visitors this year.
