A new venue has been arranged by Bahrain-based Mirage Promotions for the Middle East debut by American rock band AEROSMITH. The aim is to avoid delays experienced by many fans during last month's SHAKIRA concert.
Shakira performed for more than 25,000 people at the Dubai Autodrome, but fans reported major delays getting to and from the venue because of heavy traffic.
Aerosmith will now perform at the Dubai Exiles Rugby Ground - the venue hosting the annual Rugby 7's tournament.
Several Bahrain fans who travelled for the Shakira concert missed all or part of it because of traffic jams.
"It took me over two hours to get to the concert venue and most of the way, I had to walk it with my friends," said Bahraini Alia Mohammed, 18."By the time we got to the Autodrome, the concert was already well into its first half. I also had many friends who had bought tickets but were unable to catch the concert."
The Aerosmith concert will be held on May 31. More than 20,000 fans are expected to attend the only Middle East performance by this iconic rock band and the Dubai Exiles Rugby Ground and adjacent areas will be capable of handling more than 10,000 vehicles.
Double-decker shuttle bus services will be offered free after the concert for the concert guests.
Aerosmith was one of the most popular hard-rock bands of the 1970s, setting the style and sound of hard rock and heavy metal for the next two decades with their raunchy, bluesy swagger.
The quintet found the middle ground between the menace of the Rolling Stones and the campy, sleazy flamboyance of the New York Dolls, developing a lean, dirty riff-oriented boogie that was loose and swinging and as hard as a diamond.
Aerosmith will be performing their hits 'Crazy', 'Walk This Way', 'Dude (Looks Like A Lady)', 'Love In An Elevator', among others.
Tickets will sell in four categories - grand stand seating AED395 (about BD39.500), regular standing AED195 (about BD19.500), front pit standing AED295 (about BD29.500) and the cage standing AED995 (about BD99.500).
They will be available in Bahrain shortly. However, fans can purchase them online at www.boxofficeme.com.
"In the past few years Aerosmith, ROLLING STONES, BON JOVI and U2 have all been rumoured to be touring our region so we are naturally excited to finally present a true stadium rock act in Dubai," said Mirage Promotions general manager Thomas Ovesen.
