AFTER FOREVER - A Look Inside 'De-Energized'

AFTER FOREVER guitarist Sander Gommans has offered the following inside look at the song 'De-Energized' from the band's new self-titled album, which features a guest appearance by ANNIHILATOR guitarist Jeff Waters:
"About 'De-Energized', Joost (van den Broek/keyboards) and I wanted to create a heavy song with some prog influences. We started with writing the part after the classical part, then the verses, but we when we were writing the chorus I realised the atmosphere was so cool that the same part should be some kind of an intro. Joost made a great arrangment of that, one of my favorites. The mid-part was also challenging for us, because when we wanted to record it, both of us constantly forgot the timing and the accents, it took a while before it was on a demo recording, but after that it felt completely natural.
With recording the real album, I decided that it sounded cool to hear only bass guitar in the beginning of the mid-part, in the first version we started with the whole band.
Floor wrote the lyrics and the vocal lines, and it's about someone we collaborated a lot with. A very special song, also because Jeff contributes in it. We didn't have solos planned, but when I go the idea to ask Jeff I knew that this song had the space to do it!
About my favorite Annihilator album...impossible to say. I have special moods for each album, there's no favorite. I like them all except for Remains, which I appreciate for the experiments, but otherwise I don't like it that much. Guess that's why it's my favorite band!"
