ALICE COOPER - "There Was So Much Great Hard Rock From The '60s-'80s...But We Only Hear 10 Per Cent Of It"

Australia's Herald Sun spoke with rock legend ALICE COOPER recently about his radio show, Nights With Alice Cooper.
"I have a lot of fun with it because first of all, everybody I play I know,'' the veteran of more than 40 years in the music business says.
"I said what I wanted to do was to be able to play THE YARDBIRDS, THEM, LOVE, some FRANK ZAPPA.
You know, bands that were totally deserving of airplay, but never get any.
"To me, there was so much great hard rock from that era, from the '60s, '70s '80s...but we only hear 10 per cent of it.''
The performer renowned for working props such as a guillotine, decapitated dolls and dancing teeth into his live stage shows, says it wasn't hard to come up with the concept for his program showcasing classic, but often ignored music.
"I kind of put myself in the position of saying, `If I was listening to classic rock radio and let's say I'm a night watchman and I have to hear the same songs every single night, I would really go crazy,'' Cooper says.
"But all of a sudden, if I started hearing songs that were my favourite songs, from Supertramp or bands from way back like VAN MORRISON, or groups like the SWINGING BLUE JEANS, I'd be sitting there going `Wow, this is great, they're playing some stuff that's really wanting to make me listen to the radio again'.''
