hot flashes news all shall perish

UGO.com has issued an interview with ALL SHALL PERISH guitarist Ben Orum, conducted by Greg Prato. The following is an excerpt:

Q: Please explain the difference between deathcore and death metal.

A: "Deathcore is a word that has been tossed around a lot when in comes to All Shall Perish, some would even argue that we invented it! In the 90' we grew up listening to death metal and only death metal, MORBID ANGEL, CARCASS, GORGUTS, DEICIDE, MORTICIAN, OBITUARY... the list goes on forever. When we started hearing bands like DYING FETUS and INTERNAL BLEEDING mixing up the standard death metal song writing formula with really heavy palm riffing, we were hooked. At 21 years old in 2002, the band wrote Hate, Malice, Revenge. We wrote the music we truly loved... death metal with huge slam hooks. Immediately, tons of bands heard our sound and jumped on the band wagon. By the time our second disc, The Price of Existence, came out, the internet had spawned hundreds of copycat bands, from which the label, deathcore developed. I have never considered ASP deathcore, because we have so many different types of songs with so many different types of emotions inter-weaved. We have never limited ourselves to one sound and for that, I feel the band will always live well beyond the dying deathcore label that so many bands are stuck in."
