CANNABIS CORPSE Appear In Film 'In The Loop'
April 15, 2009, 15 years ago
Weed smoking death metallers CANNABIS CORPSE recently had a cameo role in Armando Iannucci's political satire In The Loop.
On general release in the UK this Friday, April 17th, the film stars James Gandolfini, Peter Capaldi, Tom Hollander and explores how the Iraq invasion was sold to the public on both sides of the Atlantic.
The Virginian death metallers vocalist, Weedgrinder, recounts how the filming came about: "We were all in our van on the way to a show in Richmond with Magrudergrind and Phobia when my pal Jesse - who works sound gigs for film and television called me to ask if we were available for a movie shoot in two days. We told him duh and took it from there."
Weedgrinder continues: "It ended being in Washington, DC at a club we were all familiar with called The Black Cat. It was exciting, but seemed to be a lot of waiting around. We didnt really meet any of the featured actors aside from some ridiculous extras- who wouldn’t even pass for a Nickelback rock concert. I've never seen so many babes, chads and non-black t-shirts at a death metal show. The director was cool, he seemed to be the only one, aside from The Black Cat staff, who liked what we did!"
Cannabis Corpse bassist Landphil enthuses: "I think it is great that Cannabis corpse has gotten this opportunity. It is really strange actually ha ha!"
Weedgrinder - "We played 'Sentenced To Burn One' three times live back to back, and then they had us pantomime it three more times in silence so that dialogues could be recorded clearly. We were told the final would included a mixture of live and album performance. As mentioned, the director dug it and invited us to appear in the next scene to be shot. We were extras along the bar there. While the other extras had fake beers, the bartenders kept feeding us real drinks. Nikropolis had about 6 to 7 various different shots in about three minutes! All in all, we had a blast, but there's no business like smoke business."
Cannabis Corpse, whose name is a parody of their heroes CANNIBAL CORPSE, will release The Weeding EP through Tankcrimes later this year.
