CATHOLICON has issued the following update:

"The fourth album, Of Ages Past, continues to do well and get out there. We're in some indie stores now and have spread out to more distros across the underground world than I can even guess. The digital release of Of Ages Past is scheduled for early part of the second quarter 2010. I haven't talked about this much yet because our focus has been (and still is) on the hardcopy of the record and box set.

This new presentation of the album, made specifically for the world of iTunes/Rhapsody/eMusic/Amazon/Zune/etc., is completely remixed and remastered (even the Blood Ink outro and The Red Spiral), and is a slightly new take on the record. I want to emphasize that the CD version of the record will always be the 'real' version that we all stand behind. It came out exactly as was envisioned. What we did for this downloadable version was to take a step back and try to craft it into a slightly different presentation that is more conducive to the world of earbuds, computer speakers, and short attention spans. Some songs are going to be more noticably different than others; but none of them are going to sound too terribly off from where they are on the CD. Basically, we replaced more drums, re-amped more guitars and bass, re-edited some things more tightly, made some additional corrections for stereo image and phase, etc. Just slightly overall a bit more tightened/facelifted/leveled out, etc.

The CD version of the album, and this is an important thing to note in this day and age where everything is fake, really is mixed from the original principle guitar and drum tracks that were recorded live. The 'live' guitar is actually one of the real guitar tracks of the record, and the drums really are the drums (EQ'd, edited, and compressed to hell and back, yes... but not replaced!). We actually captured a DI on the bass and guitar tracks for re-amping purposes later; but opted to not do so. We kept that CD very organic and 'true' to it's source tracks, which is one of the things we did that I'll always be proud of. This new version is basically a 'what if' presentation where I show you what it may have sounded like if a lot of those and other small mix decisions were all reversed. We plan to put some tracks up on myspace soon as a sample and would love to know what you think.

Lastly, some label news. UW Records (owned and operated by Catholicon's Blasphyre) are proud to announce our second release (Of Ages Past being the first), slated tentatively for second quarter 2010; and are proud to be working with Californian black/grind legends KILLGASM for their debut full length album! This is going to be something very special, and as a long-time fan of the band (since hearing their Goatgrind demo some years ago) we are very very excited! Killgasm have put out two 7"inch EPs, several demos and self-released EPs; but this will be their debut full-length CD, to be aptly titled, Bloodbath Of Satanic Vengeance!"
