Toronto rocker DANKO JONES is featured in a new interview with The Toronto Sun for his new album, Below The Belt. An excerpt is available below:

As Jones and his rhythm section — bassist John Calabrese and drummer Dan Cornelius — return to the endless road on their umpteenth Canadian bar tour, he weighs in on sexual metaphors, owning up to his influences and having the last laugh on the Canadian music industry.

This album feels like you’re picking up right where you left off last time.

"Well, we wanted to make it faster and heavier than we had been in a while. We wanted to take a lot of the elements we liked — the heaviness of (2003’s) We Sweat Blood; the speed and punk-rock approach of (2006’s) Sleep is the Enemy; and the melody of (2008’s) Never Too Loud — and fuse it all together. I think that’s what we did. And judging from the reviews that are coming out, we succeeded. It’s been, like, 100% positive, which is kind of scaring us, because that never happens!"

After all these years, you still refuse to water down your sound. You must have had people who told you it would be a good career move to be more commercial.

"We’ve been told that since Day 1. ‘All you need is one song’ — that was almost a mantra from the music industry back home. But we really enjoy hard rock. We really think it’s a legitimate genre of music. I don’t consider it the lowbrow genre that a lot of Canadian music industry people seem to think it is. And Europe has proven me correct. There’s a lot of people here who think the same way we do. I hate to sound like an a--hole, but a lot of the people who told us, ‘You should do this’ and ‘You should do that’ aren’t in the industry anymore. They’re working at Canadian Tire or Home Hardware. And we’re still here, we’re still a band, we’re still touring."
