DAVE GROHL Says FOO FIGHTERS Revisited NIRVANA's "Disco Beats" For New Album; Video

Dave Grohl joins Zane Lowe on Apple Music to discuss the Foo Fighters’ upcoming 10th studio album, Medicine At Midnight, due out this Friday. He tells Apple Music about accepting the invitation to perform at the recent presidential inauguration, early insecurities as a frontman, the unifying power of music, his almost-finished forthcoming documentary What Drives Us, his inability to reflect on his own legacy, the band’s evolving sound and how disco plays a role, and much more.

Grohl on Foo Fighters' evolving sound and disco's role in his music, going back to Nirvana: "Listen, here's the thing, is I guarantee that most musicians have that groove or that vibe somewhere within them. They just may have never found the right time or place to let it out. And I think over time, if you've been in a band for a long time, you get comfortable in that place that people are familiar with.

"Other rock bands, they're going to make a song that sounds like this. But in some attempt at longevity, you just have to be able to reach out and try things that you've never done before. And I'm a drummer. I love Trouble Funk, and I love The Gap Band, and I love… I remember I explained that one time to Pharrell when I was interviewing Pharrell, and I said, "Yeah, if you listen to Nirvana's Nevermind, those are disco beats, dude." He's like, "What do you mean?" And I was like, "That... that is straight up disco." For sure, when we started making this record, it was like, okay, let's go there. Let's do it."
