BW&BK; has learned that DEEP PURPLE frontman Ian Gillan will be returning to the annual ROCK MEETS CLASSIC tour in January 2012 for 20 shows in Europe. This will be his second run with the outfit, which features THE MAT SINNER BAND alongside an orchestra. More details will be revealed soon, tour dates are due to be announced this weekend.
Mat Sinner (PRIMAL FEAR / SINNER) comments: "We're all had such a great experience on the last tour with Ian, that everybody in the team is looking forward to share the stage with the legend again! Yes!"
Sinner recently confirmed that Primal Fear frontman Ralf Scheepers and AVANTASIA vocalist Amanda Somerville will once again be part of the line-up as backing vocalists. This will be Somerville's third time out with Rock Meets Classic, the second for Scheepers. They will be joined by another mainstay, Tiffany Kirkland, and new member Sascha Krebs of the We Will Rock You musical. More details will be revealed soon.
Scheepers (pictured above with Kirkland) commented on his experience as a background vocalist on the Rock Meets Classic 2011 European tour during an interview focusing on his new self-titled solo debut:
“It was a new experience,” Scheepers says. “Being a background vocalist is totally different if you’re used to standing up front, but in the end it was a lot of fun. Sometimes I thought ‘I hope nobody from the metal scene recognizes me up here…’ but in the end I’m fine with it and there’s absolutely no reason to complain. It was a great experience, and I can say I did the backing vocals for IAN GILLAN (laughs).”Click here for more. Go to this location for BW&BK;'s interview with Sinner about Rock Meets Classic.
