DEF LEPPARD Guitarist Phil Collen - MANRAZE Nearly Called FAYE WRAYS
January 27, 2014, 10 years ago
MANRAZE is an alternative dub-punk-rock band formed by the iconic trio of DEF LEPPARD guitarist Phil Collen, SEX PISTOLS drummer Paul Cook and GIRL's bass player Simon Laffy. Rock Overdose writer Dimitris Bakoulas recently chatted with Collen, an excerpt follows:
How did you choose the band's name and what does it mean for you?
Phil: "We considered calling it FAYE WRAYS but at Simon's suggestion we tried something more manly. We changed the spelling so it wouldn't get confused with the surrealist artist Man Ray thus Manraze."
Could you describe the vibes in the band and the atmosphere in the studio when it comes to the creative process?
Phil: "We have the most amazing relationship. Everything about the band and the music is extremely liberating. There are no rules so we can take any direction we feel. It's a real band. Everyone totally puts in 100%. We respect each other's views. It's a very refreshing, inspiring process."
