New Toronto-based COAL CHAMBER bassist Chela Rhea Harper is showcased in a new ESP Guitars Artist Spotlight feature. An excerpt from the article is available below:

"While Chela Harper isn?t the first female bass player to be part of the ESP family, she is the first person who is a second-generation ESP endorsee. Her father Carl Harvey is an amazing guitar player and singer-songwriter who is best known for his work as a member of legendary reggae band Toots & the Maytals. But while talent obviously runs in her genes, Chela forged her own musical path, and has now joined Coal Chamber for their highly-anticipated return to the spotlight.

Chela?s entire life has revolved around music. With many members of her family involved in professional recording and touring, she was in studios since she was a toddler, and contributed her first vocals to a studio recording when she was just seven years old. As a young fan, her tastes leaned toward aggressive rock music from bands like TOOL, SYSTEM OF A DOWN and RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE. Later on, she also discovered a love of Eastern-influenced musical sounds."

As previously reported, while compiling material from the recently wrapped-up Soundwave Festival tour in Australia, BW&BK; stumbled across Harper's official Soundcloud page featuring several examples of her own work. It includes four demos of her one-woman Middle Eastern/Indian-influenced project, SARASVATI. A self-proclaimed metal nerd, Harper lays down vocals, guitar, bass, does some programming and “pseudo hand drumming” on the four demos, which have been online for about a year.

Go to this location to check out her work. Watch for her interview with BW&BK;, coming soon.

Below is a Coal Chamber interview conducted before they played their first show together in almost a decade in Brisbane during Soundwave. The band features singer Dez Fafara (also DEVILRIVER), guitarist Miguel Rascón, bassist Chela Rhea Harper and drummer Mike Cox.
