Former Xentrix and Hellfighter front man, Simon Gordon, has spoken about his new band, Black Whiskey, ahead of a concert with fellow Londoners Four Wheel Drive at The Borderline club in London this weekend (May 24th).
Simon Gordon was the vocalist with Xentrix from 1994-1997, during which time the band toured and released the album Scourge. In 2008 he formed Hellfighter with former Xentrix band mates Kristian Havard and Dennis Gasser, releasing the Damnation’s Wings album in 2011. Regarding Black Whiskey he said:
“This is a real change for me. I’m also working on some really heavy new music this year with a well-known band, which I'll be able to talk about in due course, but Black Whiskey has been an opportunity for me to relax and sing some really stripped back, straight ahead rock music. It’s been a real blast and has a very organic feel to it. I’ve been drawing on influences from the 70’s and 80’s, timeless bands that I used to listen to when I was a kid, so there are nods to Led Zeppelin, Free, UFO, MSG, Rainbow, Scorpions and other bands in there. I’ve been lucky enough to find a great, bluesy guitarist to work with and we’ve written some strong songs.”Black Whiskey has recorded five songs, which are available to stream on Soundcloud and available to download via iTunes and other online retailers. The band is currently writing more songs and plans to record and release a full album by the end of the year. Meanwhile, they have confirmed a UK festival appearance at the Rock Circus Festival on September 14th and a show with NWOBHM legends, Chrome Molly on October 25th.
Simon Gordon is joined in Black Whiskey by guitarist Kev Ingles, drummer Rich Bannister and bassist Mark T. Parkin (whose experience includes bass duties in the solo band of legendary producer Steve Booker).
