According to Sundaymercury.net, Brummie rock legend Bev Bevan has been signed up as BBC Radio WM’s big new Sunday attraction.

The former BLACK SABBATH, ELO drummer will present a two-hour show of music and chat – and plans to phone a friend or two.

Bev, one of the Sunday Mercury’s most popular bloggers, will start at WM on April 5. The show will run from 2pm to 4pm and will go out live from the Beeb’s studios at Birmingham’s Mailbox.

The rock star did a trial run behind the microphone last Tuesday, and is already drawing up big plans.

“I’m every excited about the show,” he said. “Unlike most radio presenters in the UK I get to choose all of the music.

“And being the Beeb, of course, there will be none of those irritating commercial breaks.”

Bev used to host a weekend show on Saga radio, later renamed Smooth, but was axed when the station cut back regional output.

He plans to make the new Radio WM show essential listening with some special features.

“I’m pulling together ideas for a recipe of regular weekly items,” he said. “One of things I’d love to do is have a ‘phone a friend’ section of the show. I could get listeners to suggest questions they’d like to ask some of my friends, such as Jasper Carrott, Robert Plant and Tony Iommi.

“Then I’d call up my mates and put the questions to them live on air. The more ‘off the wall’ posers the better. I’d ask them for their favourite records, and play them for listeners.

“I’ll also be doing something that I already do from time to time in my Sunday Mercury blog, looking back at my tour diaries and recalling what I was up to with THE MOVE, ELO or Black Sabbath.
